The Best Advice I was Ever Given

"At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and your happiness."

I never realized how true this was until just recently when I started doing things for myself. People try so hard to please other people, change who they are to fit in and disfigure their sense of self to comply with others wishes. If that makes you happy, then you don't need to read any further.

Yes, you have a family you want to take care of and superiors you don;t wan to disappoint but there's a line you can draw for yourself that allows you some happiness and compliance in your life too. I'm a person who strives to make people happy, and I used to think that made me happy. (Not that it doesn't anymore.... I'm not that bitter of a person ;P) I like to make people happy, but before I took this advice, that's all I spent my time doing. I don't even know what I like doing for myself anymore.

You can be happily married or in a deep relationship, but at the end of the day, all you have is yourself. Laying down in bed at night, literally, you only have you and your thoughts.
Some of you might think that's depressing, which I mean if you're not doing the things you like and that make you happy then yeah, it will be depressing. If you ARE doing you and making the most of the decisions that affect your personal morality/beliefs/personality that's one of the most comforting feelings in the world.

All the single people, this applies to you too! As a single individual, you are free to go out and do WHATEVER makes you happy. All you have is yourself at the end of the night (literally! #sorrynotsorry), so if you're not content with your life, it's up to you to change it.

This is sounding more motivational than I had wanted it to, but its chill, because everyone needs a tidbit of encouragement to go forward with a decision they think will benefit them in the long run.

So as a recap....
1. Don't change yourself because others want you too
2. Make choices that you would make without anyone's influence
3. Make decisions that will benefit you

It's a cut-throat world out there, and you have to do anything to get ahead, so start by doing what you want. You can have other people you depend on, but just don't rely on them to affect your overall enjoyment of life.

Unfortunately I do not remember who provided me with this little light of wisdom, but in the end, all that matters is that it affected me for the better.
